The Rev. William Ed (Bill) Gammons, 89, of 215 Hilda Drive, Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2007, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. The Rev. Gammons was born December 10, 1917, in Surry County, to the late George and Sally Johnson Gammons. He was retired from Bassett Furniture and the pastor of Faith and Gospel Church for 56 Years. He is survived by his wife, Ethel Love Gammons of the home; a daughter, Lydia Horton of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Joyce Gammons of Mount Airy; three grandchildren and spouses, Joy and Rudy Leftwich of Cana, VA, and Dale and Susan Gammons and April Goad, all of Mount Airy; a special friend, Jamie Jarrell of Cana, VA., seven great grandchildren; two sisters, Clinnie Hall and Ida Martin, both of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, the Rev. Gammons was preceded in death by three sisters, Addie France, Gracie Hall and Vadie Hall and a brother, Elery Gammons. The funeral service will be held Saturday, January 13, 2007, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Buford Jessup and Rev. Keith Love, and burial will follow in the Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, and other times at the home of Billy and Joyce Gammons, 116 Burnley Lane, Mount Airy. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to The Gideon's International, 2900 Lebanon Road, Nashville, TN 37214.
