Rev. Willis Hobert Pell, II

The Rev. Willis Hobert Pell, II, 74, of Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday evening, February 3, 2010, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. The Rev. Pell was born October 15, 1935, in Patrick County, VA, son of the late Joseph Wheeler and Cora King Pell. He retired from Proctor-Silex Inc. after many years of service and was a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Cana, VA. The Rev. Pell was also a retired minister, and he and his wife enjoyed singing in gospel groups, including the Glory Road Quartet. He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Deborah Lynn and Jerry Poteat of Mount Airy and Carolyn Denise Warren of Pinnacle; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary Willis and Karen Pell of Hillsville, VA; three grandchildren, Christy Hernandez and her husband, Marcos, of Walkertown, Ami Isaacs of Roanoke, VA, and Kayla Pell of Hillsville, VA; a stepgranddaughter and her husband, Tammy and Darrell Curry; two great-grandchildren, Isabella Hernandez and Alex Hernandez; three great-stepgrandchildren, Brianna Poteat, Brandi Poteat, and Kayleigh Curry; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Alene and Charlie Tillis of Hogansville, GA, Annie and Ozzie Montgomery of Ramseur, and Sylvia and Elmer "Moe" Dawson of Claudville, VA; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Joseph and Mildred Pell of Walkertown, Benjamin and Pauline Pell of Mount Airy, and Marie Pell of Claudville, VA; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Gloria and Melvin Snow of Ararat, VA; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, the Rev. Pell was preceded in death by his wife, Fenten Marie McBride Pell; a brother, Harrison Pell; and two sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Viola and Jess Edwards and Martha Hosey. The funeral service will be held Sunday, February 7, 2010, at 3:00 PM at Oak Ridge Baptist Church, with the Rev. David "Buster" Sechrist and the Rev. Myron Dalton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Skilled Nursing Facility at Northern Hospital of Surry County, 830 Rockford Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family will also be meeting and receiving friends at the home of the Rev. Pell on Friday from 12:00 PM until 6:00 PM.
