Reverend Roscoe Junior Creed, age 88, of Mount Airy, NC, passed from this world Monday, September 20, 2021, to join his beloved Mabel. Roscoe, a US Army Veteran, served his country as a firefighter in Panama during the Korean War. He was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandpa, great papa, cherished friend, and a long-time member and “candy man” at White Plains Baptist Church. He loved people of all ages and lived to put smiles on faces of those he encountered. He always had a joke or a trick up his sleeve and lived by the rule that laughter was the best medicine. Roscoe pastored many churches from Florida to Virginia. His devotion to Christ ignited a passion which evolved into his “Missions to Missions” ministry that touched the lives of countless people in the name of Christ. His ministry spanned across the country and outside its borders through VBS, Revivals, music, and construction projects. He was loved by children of all ages. He was a builder by trade and made it a habit of leaving things and people in much better shape than he found them. Well, except that furniture he beat on as a kid. When his mom asked about the damage done, Roscoe quickly confessed, “Me and my little hammer did it.” Perhaps these few moments in the hot seat launched his career of building up. The countless, spontaneous prayers he’d pray right where he was standing, just reaching heaven on someone’s behalf. Not the fancy kind, but the conversational type that sounded more like two friends in deep discussion. He was a giving man who never saw a stranger. His life’s journey took him many places, but no matter where he roamed, he never forgot who he was…just a mortal man willing and ready to serve others. Roscoe leaves behind his children and their spouses, Roger Creed (Betty Gail), Garry Creed (Robin), Revonda Ray (Wade), Theresa Shockley (David); 9 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Sue Brintle (Blaine) and Jean Hicks; and by several nieces and nephews. A beloved pet, Gizmo, his official blanket remover, and supervisor of the bedtime routine, brought him so much pleasure over the past year. Roscoe was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Mabel Irene Creed; his parents, F.J. Roscoe and Ernestine Creed; sisters - Jane Danley, Minnie Atkins, and Annie Holyfield; one brother, Wallace Creed; and by a special friend and brother-in-law, Billy Hicks. Roscoe loved his family and cherished time spent together. His face would light up at the mention of their names. He also loved the many friends he gathered over the years. Roscoe often shared a quote he learned from his dad, “I’d rather have a million friends than a million dollars.” …and that, he did. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 23, 2021, at 2:00 PM at White Plains Baptist Church. Mr. David Shockley, Rev. Mike Norman, Rev. David Tucker, Rev. Bill Tucker, and Rev. Tom Delph will be officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 12:30 – 2:00 PM at the church. In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorials be made to Transitions Hospice Care, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the Creed family.
