Rex Gregory, Sr.

Mr. Rex A. Gregory, 84, of Mt. Airy, passed away at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, Monday, March 15, 2021.  He was born in Surry County, January 4, 1937, to the late James Elmer and Mary Ann Atkins Gregory.  Mr. Gregory was a kind, soft spoken man, with a warm smile.  He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend, that loved his grandsons very much. Mr. Gregory worked as a tobacco farmer and truck driver for many years before retiring from Roadway.  He was a long-time faithful member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.  He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Rex A. Gregory, Jr. and Stephanie Hooker Gregory; grandchildren, John Wayne (Duke) Gregory and fiancée Ashley Sumner, and Zaccheus Rex Gregory and wife Kristen Gregory; a sister Magdalene Stockton; a sister-in-law Ina Mae Gregory; and a special friend Shirley Bowman.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Gregory was preceded in death by his wife Willie Sue Gregory, sisters and brother-in-law, Maurine and Carl Ray Smith, Colleen and Howard Barham, Jr., Edwin Stockton; a brother James Cicero Gregory, and an infant brother Herbert Thurman Gregory.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, March 19, 2021, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Alton Bledsoe officiating.  Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens.  Mr. Gregory will lie-in-state at the funeral home starting at 8:00 AM on Friday and the family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until the time of the service.  Online condolences may be made at www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
