Richard Aldine Davis

Mr. Richard Aldine Davis, 66, of 318 West Oakdale Street, Mount Airy, passed away Sunday evening, March 15, 2009, at his home. He was the son of the late Aldine Smith Davis and Mildred Louise Hawkins Davis. Mr. Davis was born in Norfolk, VA, moving to Charlottesville as a young boy and residing there for many years. Mr. Davis was well known in the Washington, D.C. area as a heating/air conditioning mechanic and head maintenance engineer for many large apartment projects in Northern Virginia and Maryland until moving to Mount Airy in 1995. Mr. Davis is survived by his wife of 45 years, Nancy Monto Davis of the home; his children, Steve Davis and wife, Andrea, of Reston, VA, Warren Davis and wife, Franci, of Mount Airy, Angel Davis Zorn and husband, Dave, of Crofton, MD, and Jeanette Davis Baber and husband, Dwayne, of Crozet, VA; fifteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lt. Col. USAF Ret. James M. Davis and wife, Peggy, of Citrus Heights, CA, and Lt. Col. USAF Ret. Hugh Warren Davis and wife, Helen, of Fort Collins, CO; a sister-in-law, Patricia Monto Spencer and her husband, Dennis, of Charlottesville, VA; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Davis was preceded in death by father-in-law and mother-in-law, Howard and Audrey Ayers Monto of Mount Airy. The funeral service will be held Thursday, March 19, 2009, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with Dr. Steve Lindsley officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. The family will also receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
