Richard Moir "Junior" Gilley, Jr.

Mr. Richard Moir “Junior” Gilley, Jr., age 90 of Stuart, passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at Blue Ridge Therapy Connection. He was born on January 6, 1934, in Henry County to the late Richard Moir Gilley Sr. and Carrie Etta Moran Gilley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Seay Gilley; great-grandson, Quentin Redd; brothers, Fred T. Gilley and Infant Jamie Gilley; sisters, Lois “Dimple” Plaster and Barbara Ann Foley. 

Junior was strong in his faith and enjoyed serving the Lord. He was a long-time member of Community Primitive Baptist Church. He was skillful at woodworking and fixing lawn mowers. He was an excellent “handyman” and plumber. He was always willing to help others. He will be dearly missed by all those that loved and knew him. 

Left to cherish the fond memories of Junior are his sons and daughters-in-law, J.W. Gilley (Vicki) and Rick Gilley (Denise); grandchildren, Jonathan Gilley (Mitzi), Nikki Redd (Chris), Revonda Gilley, Jessica Gilley; great-grandchildren, Kayla Shepherd, Savannah Halbrook, Tyler Carr, Kayra Carr, Cameron Redd, and Kelsey Gilley; a brother, Paul Gilley; sisters Lola Gilley and Elaine Hancock; and several special nieces and nephews.

A graveside service for Mr. Gilley will be held on Friday, October 18, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Community Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with Elder Tim McGrady officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 1427 Edgewood Drive, Suite 101, Mt. Airy, NC 27030.
