Mr. Richard Alexander Nichols, 89, of Cana, VA, passed away at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, Sunday, February 21, 2021. He was born in Surry County May 13, 1931, one of ten children, to the late William Alexander and Lura Joines Nichols. Mr. Nichols retired from Hennis Trucking and was a faithful member of Rocky Ford Christian Church, where he served as a deacon since 1980. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Left to cherish his memory are, his wife Josephine “Josie” Easter Nichols; daughters, Jennifer, and Tonya; a stepdaughter, and son-in-law, Mary Jo and Larry Dollyhigh, Jr.; a grandson Austin Whitt; and a great grandson Layne Whitt; a special nephews, Alex, and Adam Mayo; and a special niece Abby Mayo. In addition to his parents, Mr. Nichols was preceded in death by his sisters, Vertie Nichols, Florence Brinkley, Bertha Hodges, Bertie Nichols, Nanny Nichols, and Willie Mae Frost; and his brothers, Walter, Leff, and Samuel Nichols. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Rocky Ford Christian Church with services conducted by Youth Minister George Randall. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. There will not be any formal visitation. Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy is assisting the Nichols Family.
