Mr. Richard Joseph Southerland , 76, of 4510 Yadkinville Road, Winston-Salem, NC passed away Saturday, September 29, 2007 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice and Palliative Care Center in Winston-Salem. He was born in Wilmington, NC on July 12, 1931 to the late Charlie and Margaret Galloway Southerland. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Southerland retired from Wesley's Business Forms after 37 Years. In retirement, he worked for Modern Toyota, Winston-Salem and RCS Express of Kernersville. He was a member of Brim's Grove Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Mary Jo Brinkley Southerland of the home, a daughter and son-in-law, Amy S. and Dr. Michael Winter of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, three step grandchildren, two step great grandchildren, one brother, Charles Southerland of Palantine, IL and a nephew, Bill Carter, Sr., Mt. Airy, NC. Mr. In addition to his parents, Mr. Southerland was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret S. Carter Pinkham. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, October 2, 2007 at Moody Funeral Home of Mt. Airy conducted by Rev. Tom Southern. Burial to follow in Skyline Memory Gardens with full military rites to be conducted at the graveside by The VFW Memorial Honor Guard VFW Post 2019 Mt. Airy and VFW Post 9436 Pilot Mountain. The family will receive friends 9:30 AM Tuesday until time of the service at Moody Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice and Pallative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Wake forest University Baptist Medical Center, Dr. Patrick Currie, Dr. Craig Hall and Dr. Davey Stallings for their care and compassion.
