Richard Aaron Tilley, Jr

Mr. Richard Aaron Tilley, Jr., 54, of Mount Airy, affectionately known as "Papa" by his grandchildren, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, June 26, 2010, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mr. Tilley was born August 21, 1955, in Forsyth County, to the late Richard Aaron Tilley, Sr. and Billie Jean Horton Tilley. He is survived by his fiancée, Rena Smith of Mount Airy; two daughters, Suzanne Erin Cox of Mount Airy and Jennifer Tate of Ararat, VA; a son, Brian Smith of Mount Airy; six grandchildren, Dylan Pozo, Austin Pozo, Brooke Cox, Jessica Macleod, Jillian Peeples, and Haylee Smith; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Eric J. Tilley, Sr. and Walter Reid and Tammy Tilley, all of Mount Airy; a niece, Shannon Tilley; a nephew, Eric Jason Tilley, Jr.; and a great nephew, Nathan "Nate" Tilley. In addition to his parents, Mr. Tilley was preceded in death by a brother, Blain Tilley. A graveside service will be conducted at 3:30 PM Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at Skyline Memory Gardens, with Brother Don Collins officiating. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy on Wednesday from 1:30 until the time to leave for the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the family for expenses or to the charity of the donor's choice.
