Riley Lee Wood

Mr. Riley Lee "Spug" Wood, age 92 of Dobson passed away on Thursday evening January 15, 2009. He was born in Surry County on August 10, 1916 to the late William Riley Wood and the late Amanda Elizabeth Calhoun Wood. He was a retired farmer and was a Veteran of the US Army and served in Europe during WWII. He was a long time member of Salem Baptist Church. Surviving are his loving wife Lucille Draughn Wood of the home; a daughter and son-in-law Amy and Steve Lilley of Summerfield, NC; step daughter and step son-in-law Shirley and Don Cothren of Winston Salem, NC; two grandchildren Alex Lilley and Michael Lilley; step granddaughters Donna Pruitt and MaryAnn Jarvis; step great grandchildren and step great-great grandchildren; by numerous loving nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by
four sisters, Bertha Wood Draughn, Daisy Wood Hardy, Elizabeth "Lizzie" Wood Draughn and Betty Wood, and two infant sisters; two brothers Alex Wood and Archie Wood, and three infant brothers. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday January 18, 2009 at Salem Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Church Cemetery, Rev. Bobby Lewis, Rev. Alton Bledsoe and Rev. Dennis Bledsoe are conducting the services. The family will be receiving friends at Salem Baptist Church on Saturday evening from 6 until 8 PM. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the Salem Baptist cemetery fund or to the church building fund 430 Rockford Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
