Rita Childress Hernandez

Mrs. Rita Childress Hernandez, 47, of Elkin, passed away at her home on Saturday May 12, 2007 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Yadkin County on February 23, 1960 to the late Odell and Pauline Mitchell Childress. Mrs. Hernandez was employed at Austin Company in Yadkinville as long as her health permitted and was a member of Second Chance Church. A loving sister, aunt and friend, she leaves behind to cherish her memory, three sisters Vickie Childress of Elkin, NC, Sandra Childress of Mt. Airy and Amy Hernandez of Elkin; three brothers, Mickey Childress of Longtown, Randy Childress of Elkin, Clay Childress of Yadkinville; several special nieces and nephews; a special friend, Kenneth Renegar and her Heart Sister, Irene Coe. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hernandez was preceded in death by a sister, Janice Rebecca Childress; two brothers, Larry Gray Childress and Wendell Spencer Childress; her maternal grandparents, Willie George and Trudy Mitchell and her paternal grandparents, Dave and Tiny Childress. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday May 16, 2007 at Second Chance Church with Rev. Terry Coe and Rev. Alan Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 7 to 9 pm at Moody-Davis Funeral Home. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care and to the many friends for the love, prayers and support shown to them during Rita's illness.
