Mr. Robert Wilson “Red” Axsom, age 90, of Dobson, passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at Chatham Health and Rehabilitation in Elkin. He was born April 21, 1931, in Surry County to the late Martin Cornelius Axsom and the late Carrie Childress Axsom. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Mildred Medley, Bessie Ashburn, and Julia Barber; and his brothers, Gurney Axsom and Enos Axsom. Left to cherish his memories are his wife of over 70 years, Carol Swaim Axsom; daughter and son-in-law, Vickie Axsom Brown and George Brown; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Ronald and Norma York. Mr. Axsom was a member of Field of Grace Baptist Church, a veteran of the US Army during the Korean War, and retired as the chief of police from the Dobson Police Department. Visitation will be Friday, April 15, 2022, from 1-2:00 PM at Moody-Davis Funeral Service in Dobson. Services will begin at 2:00 in the Moody-Davis Chapel with Reverend Barry O’Neal officiating. Burial will follow in the Salem Fork Baptist Church Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the Salem Fork Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 555 Twin Oaks Road, Elkin, NC 28621. Moody-Davis Funeral Service in Dobson is serving the Axsom Family.
