Robert Herman Chilton, Jr

Mr. Robert Herman Chilton, Jr, age 81 of Mount Airy, passed away Friday, November 11, 2016 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. He was born August 20, 1935 in Surry County to the late Robert Herman Chilton, Sr. and Clio Barker Chilton. Mr. Chilton was employed by Pike Electric Company for 45 years as their safety director. He was a member of Bannertown Baptist Church and was a retired member of the Bannertown Fire Department. He was an avid golfer. Surviving are a granddaughter and spouse, Amanda and Jay Solomon of Hendersonville, NC; a grandson and spouse, Jeremy and Grace Ann Cundiff of Kannapolis, NC; and the father of his grandchildren and spouse, Kent and Dawn Cundiff of Rockwell, NC, sister, June C. Slate of King, NC, a brother and sisters in-laws, Dale Chilton and wife, Ann of Sherrills Ford, NC, Patricia Tilley of Advance, NC, nieces and nephews, Cathy Lawson and Dennis of Pilot Mountain, NC, Karen Gillespie of King, NC Tammy Burnette of King, NC and Matthew Chilton of King, NC. In addition to his parents, Mr. Chilton was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Joann Smith Chilton; and his daughters, DeLana Dawn Chilton and Denise Chilton Cundiff and two brothers-in-law, Robert Slate and Buddy Smith. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 PM on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at Skyline Memory Gardens with services conducted by Rev. Mickey Cogdill. The family will receive friends 1:00 pm Saturday until time for Mr. Chilton to be carried to the cemetery for the service at Moody Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017. Moody Funeral Service in Mount Airy is serving the Chilton family.
