Robert Alexander Gwyn, Jr.

Mr. Robert Alexander Gwyn, Jr., age 90, of Mount Airy, passed away Saturday, November 2, 2024, at Northern Regional Hospital. Mr. Gwyn was born in Surry County on April 11, 1934, to the late Robert Alexander Gwyn, Sr., and Mallie Haynes Gwyn. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend that would give you the shirt off his back or lend a helping hand. Mr. Gwyn was an insurance salesman for many years, until later becoming a small business owner. He also was a faithful member of Mount Airy Friends Meeting, where he taught Sunday school for many years, and was an usher. He loved to garden, giving his first squash to Laura, first cucumber to Lisa, and first tomato to his wife Ogla. Surviving Mr. Gwyn is daughters and sons-in-law, Laura Horton and Bill, Lisa Booker and Greg; grandchildren, Heather Horton, Beau Booker; sister-in-law, Edna Herring Stanley; great friend, MB Smith; his dear cat, Earl Grey. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gwyn was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ogla Herring Gwyn, brother, Bill Gwyn. Per the family’s request, a celebration of life service will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Open Air Ministries 121 Mantle Ave., Mount Airy NC 27030 or to Mt.
