Mr. Robert Gene Hopkins, Sr., 69, loving husband of Peggy Miles Hopkins, of Winston-Salem, passed away Wednesday July 2, 2008, at Forsyth Medical Center after an extended illness. He was born in St. Louis, MO, on August 19, 1938, to the late Elmer and Belle Ezell Hopkins. Mr. Hopkins retired from Fairchild Industries, where he worked in the tool and dye department, and was a member of Lexwin Baptist Church. An avid Cardinals fan, he leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Peggy Miles Hopkins; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Jeanna and Ellis Bowman of Kernersville, Joyce and the Rev. Kevin Jenkins of Dobson, and Pamela Hopkins of MO; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Robert and Audre Hotchkiss of Winston-Salem, David Hopkins of Kernersville, and Robert and Denise Hopkins of MO; sixteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and numerous special friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hopkins was preceded in death by a brother, James Lee Hopkins; and a special brother-in-law, Joseph Miles. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, July 4, 2008, at Second Chance Church, with the Rev. Danny Hausier, the Rev. Kevin Jenkins, the Rev. Terry Coe, and the Rev. Greg Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, with military honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at Second Chance Church, where his body will remain until the hour of the service. Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson is serving the Hopkins family.
