Mr. Robert Wade Horton, 67, of 173 East Cleve Street, Mount Airy, passed away Thursday morning, August 12, 2010, at his home. He was born July 6, 1943, in Surry County, to the late Willie Ernest and Goldie Small Watson Horton. He had worked for Brown Wooten Knitting and attended Genesis Full Gospel Church. Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Peggy Mae Bowman Horton of the home; four daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Lee Hooper of Mount Airy, Dorothy and Timmy Edwards of Lowgap, Nancy and Danny Bishop of Mount Airy, and Bobbie and Ricky House of Mount Airy; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; ten sisters and five brothers-in-law, Joann Woods of Pilot Mountain, Margie and Arthur Noah of Mount Airy, Carolyn and Tommy Daniels of Georgia, Nellie Anderson of High Point, Shirley and Roger Dollyhite of Mount Airy, Nina Horton of Mount Airy, Ruthie Hopkins of High Point, Rhonda Horton of Mount Airy, Verna Lynn and Melvin Clodfelter of Mount Airy, Mary Earles of Mount Airy, and Colonel Bowman of Pinnacle; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Charlie and Faye Horton of Mount Airy and Tommy and Faye Horton of Ararat; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Horton was preceded in death by three sisters, Hazel Bowman, Peggy Mabe, and Betty Jean York; and four brothers, Woodrow Horton, Ed Horton, Alec Horton, and William Horton. The funeral service will be held Saturday, August 14, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Lonnie Gunter and the Rev. Tommy Shelton officiating. Burial will follow in the Blue Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Canaan Land Children's Home, P.O. Box 186 Toast, NC 27049.
