Mr. Robert E. "Bob" Johnson age 83 of 806 West Haymore Street, Mt Airy widower of Mrs. Mary Jacqueline Boyles Johnson passed away Thursday morning, April 19, 2007 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. He was born June 3, 1923 in Surry County, NC to the late Jack and Lizzie Venable Johnson. He was a member of the "Greatest Generation", having served in the US Army in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a member of VFW Post 9436. He was an ever present figure at Moody Funeral Home for 26 years before retiring after suffering a heart attack. He was a member of Rockford Street United Methodist Church for forty years. He loved his Lord, family, nature, gardening, and all animals, especially his cat, Patch. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Robbie Sue and Dennis "Chipper" Bowman, Rural Hall, NC, Jane and Randy Surratt, Cana, VA, two grandchildren and a spouse, David and Roxi Bowman, Pinnacle, NC, and Melissa Bowman, Rural Hall, NC, a great grandchild, Julia Bowman, Pinnacle, NC, two sisters and brother-in-law, Viola J. Anderson, Mt. Airy, NC , Myrtle Mae and Richard Crump, Pilot Mountain, NC, a brother and two sisters-in-law, Aubrey "Sam" and Mozelle Johnson, King, NC, Vernie Johnson, Pilot Mountain, NC, several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by a sister, Stella Fletcher, two brothers, Roy Johnson and an infant brother. Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Saturday, April 21, 2007 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel of Mt. Airy conducted by Rev. Fonda Younger and Rev. Will Randolph. Interment will follow in the Pilot Mountain City Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted at the graveside by VFW Memorial Honor Guard Post 2019 Mt. Airy and Post 9436 Pilot Mountain. The family will receive friends 7-9 PM Friday at Moody Funeral Home of Mt. Airy where his body will remain until the hour of the funeral service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Rockford Street United Methodist Church, 520 Rockford Street, Mt. Airy, NC 27030 or to Surry Animal Rescue, 104 Quail Run Trail, Mt. Airy, NC 27030. The family wishes to thank the staff of IMU2 at Forsyth Medical Center and Dr. Friedman and Dr. Pinkerton.
