Robert Dean Joyce

Mr. Robert Dean Joyce, 75, of 3110 Burke Mill Court, Winston-Salem, passed away Sunday, August 28, 2011, at his home. Mr. Joyce was born April 22, 1936, in Surry County, the son of the late William Vestal and Ida Mae Inman Joyce. Robert served in the United States Army and was a member of the 503MP battalion as a chaplain assistant. After he was discharged from the Army, he began his career with the Department of Social Services of Forsyth County and retired after 32 years of service. Following his retirement, he worked part-time in antique shops. He is survived by a sister, Rachel Joyce Jennings of Martinsville, VA; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Delmar Ray and Sue Joyce and Herbert Hoover and Lillie Mae Joyce, all of Mount Airy; and several beloved nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Joyce was preceded in death by two sisters, Gladys Joyce Potts and Vernell Joyce Beasley; and a brother, Raymond Lester Joyce. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 31, 2011, at 10:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Keith Love officiating. Burial will follow in the Woodville Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
