Robert "Monk" Harold Moncus

Mr. Robert “Monk” Harold Moncus, 79, of Mt. Airy passed away at his home after a brief illness, Saturday, July 17, 2021. He was born in Surry County on December 25, 1941, to the late Robert and Minnie Wilson Moncus. Monk owned and operated Monk’s Glass Company where he worked along with his son Jason. He was a member of Granite Masonic Lodge #322 AF & AM, and Surry Shriners. He was a generous kindhearted man who will be dearly missed by all his family and many friends. Monk is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Barbara Moncus; grandchildren, Jason Robert Moncus, Jr. and Allison Brooke Moncus; a sister, Annie Mae Scott; a brother and sisters-in-law, David and Mary Moncus, and Bonnie Moncus Parker; uncle, Charlie Moncus and wife Helena; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Monk was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Faye Reece Moncus; a grandbaby “baby Moncus”; brother, Gray Moncus, and infant brother Edward Dean Moncus; a brother-in-law, Eddie Scott; a nephew Kevin Moncus; and special friend Geraldine Leonard. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Watson officiating. Burial will follow in Shining Light Baptist Church Cemetery with Masonic rites. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 12:30 PM until the time of the service.
