Mr. Robert Bruce Parks, 70, of 288 Parks Farm Lane, Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday afternoon, August 3, 2010, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Parks was born March 6, 1940, in Surry County, son of the late Robert Lee and Margie Elizabeth Holyfield Parks. Bruce was a lifelong tobacco farmer and gardener. He was a member of Rock Hill Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Rachel Robertson Parks of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Gaye and Brad Wood and Joy and Terry Johnston, all of Mount Airy; three sons and daughters-in-law, Randy and Donna Parks of Virginia, and Early and Sherry Parks and Terry and Lindsay Parks, all of Mount Airy; five grandchildren, Lexie Wood, Robert Parks, Landon Johnston, Abbie Johnston, and Caleb Parks, all of Mount Airy; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Louise and Johnny Hamlin and Maedell and Rex Quesinberry, all of Mount Airy, and Ann Parks of Patrick Springs, VA; a brother and sister-in-law, Earl and Margaret Parks of Mount Airy; a special aunt, Hattie Forbes of Newington, VA; a special uncle, Marvin Holyfield of Anchorage, AK; and a special friend, Lonnie Moore of Mount Airy. The funeral service will be held Friday, August 6, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Rock Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Lee Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, and other times at the home of Joy and Terry Johnston, 362 Mountain Ridge Trail, Mount Airy. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the Rock Hill Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o David Key, 879 Key Road, Ararat, NC 27007.
