Mr. Robert Edward “Bob” Thomas, age 84, of Dobson, passed away Thursday July 21, 2022, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. He was born October 26, 1937, in Paxton, Florida to the late Raleigh Thomas and the late Susie Mae Gautney Thomas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by son, Rusty Thomas; brothers, Bill Thomas, Melvin Thomas; mother and father in-law, Joel and Callie Hunt’ infant grandson Michael Lanz.
Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife, Joyce Ann Hunt Thomas; daughters and sons-in-law. Leisha and Keith Lanz, Meloney and Phillip Tunnage, Kim and Eric Kettelhodt, and Deedee and Ken Reece; and son and daughter-in-law, Rob and Shari Thomas Jr., Camela Thomas Nixon (Mike): fifteen grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Annie and Jackie Canley; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lowell and Jeneace Thomas and Micky and Marianne Thomas, sister-in-law, Vera Thomas; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jewel and Jimmy Brannon, Lyndal and Harold Petty, Janice and Daniel Mathis and Katrina and Jon Sousa; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Wilbur and Chris Hunt, Joel and Mary Hunt, Bob and Ernestine Hunt, Larry and Clarice Hunt, Virgil and Pat Hunt; many nieces and nephews; many great nieces and nephews, many great great nieces and nephews, one special great-great niece; and one special nephew.
Chief Thomas proudly served his country for 26 years in The United States Air Force and then 22 years as the ROTC instructor at Surry Central High School. He attended Dobson First Baptist Church and was a member of Paxton Assembly of God in Paxton, Florida. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either of these churches, in his memory. A celebration of his life will be at a later date. Moody-Davis Funeral Service in Dobson is serving the Thomas family.
