Robert Edward "Doc" Wall

Mr. Robert Edward "Doc" Wall, 76, of Mount Airy, passed away Monday, April 28, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mr. Wall was born May 18, 1931, in Surry County, the son of the late Duke and Gellean Taylor Wall. Mr. Wall was a golf pro in Plant City, Florida, for 10 years before returning to Mount Airy Country Club in 1976, where he served as golf pro for 20 years. He was a former player for the Graniteers professional baseball team, and was inducted into the Mount Airy Sports Hall of Fame in 2007. Mr. Wall was a veteran of the United States Army and was of the Baptist faith. Surviving are his wife, Mary Nell Wall of the home; a son and daughter in law, Wes and Tammy Wall of Bermuda Run; two stepgrandchildren, Brittany Jones and Richard Jones, III, both of Bermuda Run; and a sister, Shirley Tillotson of Mount Airy. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at 3:00 PM at Flat Rock Baptist Church. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Todd E. Byrd, and burial will follow in the Oakdale Cemetery, with military honors conducted by VFW Memorial Honor Guard Post 2019 of Mount Airy and Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain. The family will visit with friends on Wednesday from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM at Flat Rock Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Flat Rock Baptist Church, P.O.
