Mr. Roby Ellis Tilley Age 81 of 1960 Eldora Rd. Ararat, NC. was welcomed into heaven at 4:15 AM Saturday morning at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Tilley was born July 2, 1927 in Surry County to John Edgar and Ila Mae Hill Tilley. He was a wonderful loving husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Mr. Tilley is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Louise Davis Tilley. He is also survived by a son and daughter-in-law Jerry and Liz Tilley of Pilot Mountain; daughter and son-in-law, Lennis and Calvin Worley of Pilot Mountain, and daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Darrell Ferguson of Ararat, NC.; seven grandchildren, Bridget and husband Jamie Willoughby of Pilot Mountain; Josh and wife Karrie Tilley of Chapel Hill; Bryanna and husband Adam Baker of Pinnacle; Molly and husband H. R. White of Charlotte, Joseph Ferguson of Raleigh, Emily and Abigail Worley of Pilot Mountain; two great grandsons Garrett and Carson Willoughby of Pilot Mountain and two great granddaughters, Hannah and Emma Baker of Pinnacle.
Mr. Tilley graduated from Copeland High School in 1944 and became owner of Tilley's Store/Sandwich Shop in the Eldora Community for 40 Years. He was also a tobacco, poultry and cattle farmer throughtout the years and currently was a well respected landlord to his tenants.
Mr. Tilley was an avid musician who enjoyed playing the mandolin and guitar. He shared his talent with the Mount Zion Quartet and enjoyed many radio broadcast with Ralph Epperson on WPAQ and on WBOB in Galax, Virginia
Mr. Tilley was preceded in death by one infant daughter Joan Kay, his mother and father Ila and John Tilley and a brother Glenn Edgar Tilley.
The funeral service will be held on Monday at 2:00 P.M. at The Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mt. Airy. The service will be conducted by Rev. Mitchell Pruitt, Rev. Kermit Gray and Rev. Bobby Mills, with burial in the Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday night 6 to 8 P.M. at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Mount Zion Baptist Church cemetery fund in care of Tom Simmons, 2728 Ararat Rd. Ararat, NC. 27007 or to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane Suite 200 Mt. Airy, NC., 27030.
The family would like to thank the staff of Forsyth Memorial Hospital, Northern Hospital of Surry County and Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for the love and care given to Roby during his Illness. The family would also like to thank their many friends and neighbors for their support and kindness shown to them during this difficult time. A special thanks to Stephanie Tilley, Janet Cox and Linda Floyd for their compassion and assistance.
