Mr. Roby Roscoe Venable, 96, of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday night, March 21, 2021, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Venable was born October 24, 1924, in Surry County, the son of the late Sherman and Sara Lou Keaton Venable. Roby was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all that knew him. Roby was the oldest member of Blackwater United Methodist Church. Left to cherish his memories are his daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Ken Hatcher of Mount Airy; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Mickey and Alice Venable, Michael and Phyllis Venable, and Milo Venable, all of Mount Airy, and Mitchell and Jane Leigh Venable of Ararat; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Faye Stanley, Alma Lou Vernon, Carol Lee Flippin; one half-sister, Rita Jo Atkins; along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Venable was preceded in death by his wife, Earnestine Nola Cassell Venable; two grandsons, Dale Venable and James Hungerford; three sisters, Bertha Venable, Ollie Venable Quesinberry, Lola Venable Denny, two brothers, Floyd Venable and Weldon Venable; two half-brothers, Troy Venable and Garnet Venable. A graveside service will be held Friday, March 26, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Blackwater United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Mac Cassell, Rev. Ray Hutson, and Rev. Steve Smith officiating. Mr. Venable will lie-in-state on Thursday, March 25, 2021 from 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of Pruitt Health and Rehab as well as Mountain Valley Hospice for their love and care given to their father during his illness.
