Roger Ayers

Mr. Roger Lewis Ayers, 86 of Mount Airy passed away on Friday, April 16, 2021 at Central Continuing Care in Mount Airy.  Mr. Ayers was born on May 27, 1934 in Erie, Pennsylvania to the late Elmer and Hilma Horn Ayers.  Lewis was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend.  He will be deeply missed by all that knew him.  Mr. Ayers proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.  Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 64 years, Christin Sleight Ayers; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sandra Ayers Cox and husband Jerry, and Linda Ayers Hiatt; sons and daughter-in-law, Wesley Ayers and Marilyn, Tony Ayers, and Roger Ayers; six grandchildren, Adam, Matthew, Brittney, Hayden, Jordan, and Danielle; two great-grandchildren, Tyson and Kyla; along with several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Ayers was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Jimmy Hiatt, one sister, Carolann Ayers; two brothers, Andy Ayers and Elmer “E.J.” Ayers, Jr.  A graveside service will be held on Monday, April 19, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Oakdale Cemetery with Rev. Stewart Mauck officiating.  Military honors will be conducting by VFW Post 2019 of Mount Airy and VFW Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain.  The family will receive friends on Monday, April 19, 2021 from 12:00 PM until 1:30 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.  Flowers will be accepted, or donation may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, North Carolina 27030.  Moody Funeral Service of Mount Airy is serving the family.  To send flowers to Roger's family, please visit our floral store.
