Roger Dale Ayers, Sr.

Mr. Roger Dale Ayers, Sr., 73, of Mount Airy, passed away Thursday morning, December 5, 2019.  Mr. Ayers was born in Surry County on January 30, 1946 to the late Arthur Oakles Ayers and Vera Spencer Ayers Mills.  He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who loved his family dearly.  Mr. Ayers was of the Baptist faith and work in the truck driving industry for over 47 years.  Mr. Ayers proudly served our country as a Sergeant in the US Marines.  Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 50 years, Marsha Gandee Ayers; a daughter and son-in-law, Marcie Ayers Webb and husband Tracy; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Roger Dale Ayers, Jr. and wife Penny, David Michael Ayers, and Donnie Lee Ayers and wife Chasity; 15 grandchildren, Jonathan, Jason, Adam, Abigail, Bryson, Madison, Carson, Hannah, Holden, Tikiah, Raven, Lakota, Meadow, Angelina, and Mikaela; two great-grandsons; four sisters, Millie Sue Smith, Nancy Raborn, Janie Robertson and husband Jimmy, and Cheryl Tucker; two brothers, Gary Robert Ayers, and John Mills; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Ayers was preceded in death by a sister, Trudy Ayers; and by one brother, Arthur Oakles Ayers, Jr.  A graveside service will be held Monday, December 9, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Skyline Memory Garden with Rev. Ricky Thomas officiating.  Full military honors will be provided by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard, Pilot Mountain Post 9436 and Mt. Airy Post 2019.  There will be no formal visitation at the funeral home.  Moody Funeral Service in Mount Airy is proudly serving the Ayers family.
