Mr. Roger Lee Doss, age 94 of Yadkinville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday October 9, 2024, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 17, 1929, in Surry County to the late Fred Elmer Doss and Viola Celia Byrd Doss. He was a remarkable man, having retired from the military after 20 years combined service in the United States Navy & United States Air Force, worked for the Postal Service, trained hunting dogs, and traveled often internationally. Most importantly, he was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, & great-grandfather. He left a lifetime of fond memories for his family of time spent together. He was a sportsman who loved to hunt & fish and passed that passion on to his children and grandchildren. Surviving are his wife, Glenda Bradley Doss; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Ronnie Clifton and Marcie and Dwayne Hiatt; a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Debra Doss; four stepchildren, Alisa Raley, Candace Sutphin, Joel Pate, and the late Shayna Staley; seven grandchildren, Neil and Tatiana Doss, Melissa Simmons, Wesley Clifton, Lee and Sheena Clifton, Todd and Nicki Hiatt, Chad and Diana Hiatt, and Anna and Cameron Angel; seven step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, Madeline Clifton, Hunter Hiatt, Henry Hiatt, Nathan Hiatt, Ivan Angel, Eli Angel, and Connor Tuck; six step-great-grandchildren; and several other family and friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Doss was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Ann Nichols Doss; a sister, Faye Juanita Doss King; and by three brothers, Jack Doss, Paul Ray Doss, and Billy Gray Doss. Funeral services will be held on Saturday October 12, 2024, at 2:00pm in the Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jonathan Doss, Pastor Jimmy King, and Pastor Elmo Hiatt officiating. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens with full military rites provided the VFW Memorial Honor Guard Pilot Mountain Post 9436 and Mount Airy Post 2019. The family will receive friends on Saturday at the funeral home from 1:00 – 2:00pm. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, North Carolina 27017. The Doss family would like to say thank you to the staff at Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home and the staff of Novant Health Yadkin Medical Associates for all of the love, care, and support shown to Roger and the family.
