Roger Dale Edwards

Mr. Roger Dale Edwards, 61, of Dobson, passed away in the comfort of his home on Sunday, July 4, 2010, surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 5, 1948, in Surry County, to Lura Mae Norman and the late Arthur Ervin Edwards. Mr. Edwards was a retired farmer and of the Baptist faith. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Delorise Dowell Edwards of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Melissa and Aurelio Gonzalez and Amanda Edwards, all of Mount Airy; four sons and a daughter-in-law, Christopher and Laura Edwards of Clayton, Rodney D. Edwards, Jeffery D. Edwards, and Billy R. Edwards, all of the home; six grandchildren, including a very special grandson and granddaughter; his mother, Lura Mae Norman Edwards; five sisters, Flora and husband Kenneth Cobler, Linda and husband James Beck, Imagine Hemmings, Nellie and husband Glen Luffman; a brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Debra Edwards; and a special friend, Mike Gravely. In addition to his father, Mr. Edwards was preceded in death by two sisters, Judy Cummings and Bonnie L. Edwards; and a son, James Dale Edwards. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, July 8, 2010, at Zephyr Baptist Church, with the Rev. Eddie Bailey and the Rev. J.T. Blevins officiating. Burial will follow in the Edwards Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the church. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Zephyr Baptist Church, 279 Poplar Springs Road, Elkin, NC 28621. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Forsyth Medical Center for the compassionate care given to Mr. Edwards during his illness.
