Roger Lee Lynch, beloved husband, father and friend, 84, of King, NC, passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at Forsyth Medical Center from heart surgery complications. Roger was born on July 17, 1940, in Surry County, NC, to Bernice Olivia Nunn Lynch and Ralph Lynch.
Roger retired from Frito-Lay but continued to drive school buses for both Stokes and Forsyth counties after his retirement. His favorite pastimes were eating homegrown tomatoes, making legendary breakfast gravy, tinkering in his yard, fishing, shark tooth hunting, traveling and thrift shopping. He also loved watching most any type of movies one after another (though Westerns were his favorite) and reading the newspaper front to back. Roger loved to tell a good story (with embellishments) and could always be found laughing at this crazy world. If you ever met him, you felt immediately at home due to his warmth, humor and kindness. He was simple man who never measured his success by owning “things” but rather by the way he made people feel welcome and at ease. Just like he did with people, he never met a couch he couldn’t warm. When asked how he could lie down almost anywhere and fall asleep, he would just say “my conscience is clear.”
He is survived by his “teammate” and wife, Shirley Lynch, to whom he was married for 62 years. He also leaves behind four children who adored him including daughter Kim Lynch; sons Chris (Andrea) Lynch and Corey (Katie) Lynch; as well as daughter Misty Lynch and her husband Matthew Brozovich. He was also fortunate enough to have five grandchildren who called him “Papa Roger”: Amanda (Zach) Cardwell; Nick (Pebbles) Lynch; Mitch (Liz) Lynch; Austin (Savannah) Lynch; and Alex Lynch. Roger leaves behind six great grandchildren, several granddogs, in-laws and a host of friends, as well, who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his mother Olivia, brother Donald (Glennice) Lynch and father Ralph.
Visitation will be at Moody’s Funeral Home in Mount Airy, NC, on Friday, November 22, from 12:30-2:00 pm, with a service following immediately. A celebration of life will be planned at a later date.
