Mr. Roger Dean Oakley, 41, of 518 Junction Street, Mount Airy, passed away Friday morning, April 8, 2011, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Oakley was born September 20, 1969, in Surry County, to the Opal McHone Oakley and the late Ronald Oakley. He was employed by Veterans Memorial Park and Kentucky Fried Chicken. Mr. Oakley was a member of Closer Walk Baptist Church. Surviving are a daughter, Samantha Lyons of Cana, VA; his mother, Opal McHone Oakley of the home; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Denise and Tim Jarrell of Cana, VA, Glenda and Ricky Williams of Dobson, Rita Oakley of Elkin, and Lisa Oakley of Mount Airy; a brother and sister-in-law, Jeff and Billie Jean Oakley of Mount Airy; a "special" niece, Misty Oakley of Mount Airy; nine other nieces and nephews; and seven great nieces and nephews. In addition to his father, Mr. Oakley was preceded in death by a niece, Christy Oakley. The funeral service will be held Monday, April 11, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Jimmy Slate, the Rev. Randy Edwards, and the Rev. Ray Hutson officiating. Burial will follow in The Community Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from noon until 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Moody Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1288, Mount Airy, NC 27030 to assist the family with the funeral expenses.
