Roger Glen Phillips

Msgt (Ret) Roger Glen Phillips, 92, of Mocksville, NC, formerly of Mt. Airy, passed away at his home in Mocksville, Tuesday, February 2, 2021.  He was born in Surry County February 8, 1928 to the late Daniel and Sally Shropshire Phillips.  Mr. Phillips proudly served in the U.S. Air Force twenty years.  After retirement, he worked with the U.S. Postal service and several other professions.  Mr. Phillips had a wonderful sense of humor.  He enjoyed playing golf, spending time with family, and friends, and relished the chance to share stories about the war or just something to make you laugh.  He spent many hours as a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity and assisted with the building of numerous houses in the Pilot Mountain area.  He also enjoyed volunteering his time at the Pilot Mountain Armfield Center for various activities.  Mr. Phillips was a talented wood worker and stained-glass maker.  He will be lovingly remembered by his daughters and sons-in-law, Judith and Alan Donaldson, Susan and Don Vernon, and Ginger and Bo Hundley; grandchildren, Cheryl (Clayton) Rogers, Price (Melissa) Rush, Ricky Lee Hinshaw, and Michael Hinshaw; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister Minnie Ruth Koontz.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by his wife Peggy Elaine Arrington Phillips; sisters, Lettie Arrington, and Juanita Lewis; and a brother Thomas Phillips.  Due to health concerns at this time, there will be no formal services at the funeral home.  The daughter's welcome friends to visit them at their homes between the hours of 12:00 and 4:00 PM, through Saturday, February 6, 2021.  A private memorial graveside service is being planned at Salisbury National Cemetery.  The family would like to express a special thanks to Alexis and Madison Riddle and the hospice staff for the love, care and support given to Mr. Phillips during his illness.  In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial contributions may be sent to Trellis Supportive Care, 377 Hospital St., Suite 103, Mocksville, NC 27028, or St. Jude Research Hospital, St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
