Roger Dale Smith

Mr. Roger Dale Smith, 65, of Mount Airy, passed away Monday morning, December 5, 2016, at his home. Mr. Smith was born June 17, 1951, in Surry County, one of seven children born to the late Joseph Columbus “Joe” and Ida Vivian Joyce Smith. Roger was a brick mason’s assistant at Simmons’ Masonry for many years and a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church. He is survived by two sisters and a brother-in-law, Wanda Gail Smith of Mount Airy and Joyce and Clint Harris of Goldston; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Joseph Lee and Carol Smith and John Henry and Kay Smith, all of Mount Airy, and Jerry Wayne Smith of Hillsville, VA; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a brother, Jackie Ray Smith. A memorial service will be held Sunday, December 11, 2016, at 3:00 PM at Piney Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mark A. Reece, Jr. and the Rev. Jim V. Hamblen officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 until 3:00 PM at Piney Grove Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Moody Funeral Services, P.O. Box 1288, Mount Airy, NC 27030, to assist the family with the funeral expenses.
