Mr. Roger Bryon Turner, age 75 of Stuart, Virginia passed away at his home on Sunday, October 20, 2024. He was born in Patrick County, Virginia on July 4, 1949, to the late Stevens Toney Turner and Eunice Mae Bateman Kirkman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, James Turner; and his stepfather, J.D. Kirkman. Roger was an Army veteran who bravely served during the Vietnam War, receiving a Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He led an extraordinary life; it was the stuff legends are made of. He loved all animals and had a special kinship with them. He was somewhat of a pool shark, winning many tournaments. He will be remembered for his sharp wit, love of learning, saying, “Education will set you free!” and his love for his family.
Left to cherish the memories of Mr. Turner are his three children, Steven Turner of Royal Oak, MI, MaryKate Turner of High Point, NC, and Kelly Turner of River Rouge, MI; three sisters, Laura “Sissy” Lawson of Martinsville, VA, Linda Reynolds (Leander) of Spencer, VA, and Toni Hancock of Bassett, VA; former beloved spouse, Julia Mahoney Turner of Rochester, MI, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor Leander Reynolds presiding. The Patrick County Veteran Honor Guard will provide military rites at 5:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Clover Cat Rescue, P.O. Box 829, Stuart, VA 24171.
