Roland Christopher Chilton

Mr. Roland Christopher Chilton, 53, of Wilmington, passed away Thursday, July 5, 2012, in Wilmington. Mr. Chilton was born April 2, 1959, in Surry County, the son of Roland Lee Chilton and the late Roxie Alice O'Neal Chilton. Christopher worked as a carpenter for many years. He is survived by a daughter, Mandy Chilton of Hickory; a son, Daniel Chilton of Charlotte; his father and stepmother, Roland Lee and Imogene Chilton of Pilot Mountain; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Allison and David McMillian and Fonda and Mike Butler, all of Mount Airy; several nieces and nephews; and a great nephew. In addition to his mother, Mr. Chilton was preceded in death by a nephew, David Anthony "Bumper" McMillian; his maternal grandparents, Oscar Lee and Alice Elizabeth Gillespie O'Neal; and his paternal grandparents, Dewey and Bertha Chilton. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 21, 2012, at 11:00 AM at Fellowship Baptist Church in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Chris Benfield and Brother Don Collins officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00 until 11:00 AM at Fellowship Baptist Church, and other times at the home of Fonda and Mike Butler, 109 Harris Street, Mount Airy. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is assisting the Chilton family.
