Mr. Roland Columbus "R.C." Jackson, 82, of Mount Airy, passed away Thursday, May 14, 2009, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mr. Jackson was born April 24, 1927, in Surry County, the son of the late Rev. Walter and Nancy Alice Greenwood Jackson. Mr. Jackson was retired from Ray's Restaurants, was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served in World War II, and was an avid ham radio operator. As a youth, Mr. Jackson was a member of Grace Moravian Church and later moved his membership to Haymore Memorial Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ruby Goad Jackson of Mount Airy; two daughters and a son-in-law, Vicki Chilton and Lynn and Ray Lambert, all of Mount Airy; three grandchildren, Jennifer Wright and her husband, Daniel, of Cornelius, Emily Arrington and her fiancee, Brian Leftwich, and John Lambert, all of Mount Airy; a brother and sister-in-law, Arles and Edith Jackson of Viera, FL; sisters-in-law, Goldie Vogler and her husband, Earl, of Pfafftown and Vergie Pardue of Myrtle Beach, SC; brothers-in-law, James Goad and his wife, Carolyn, Ray Goad, and George Goad and his wife, Mary, all of Mount Airy, and Glenn Goad of Elkin. In addition to his parents, Mr. Jackson was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Capps; and three brothers, James Jackson, Ralph Jackson, and Wayne Jackson. The funeral service will be held Saturday May 16, 2009, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Robert McCrary officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakdale Cemetery, with graveside rites by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The Jackson family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00 AM until the hour of the service. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the Skilled Nursing Unit of Northern Hospital of Surry County, 830 Rockford Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030, or to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
