Romie Baired "Frank" Boles

Mr. Romie Baired Boles (Frank), 83, of Pilot Mountain, passed away Saturday, August 29, 2020, at his home surrounded by his loving family.  Mr. Boles was born on May 24, 1937, in Surry County, to Romie Franklin and Emma Jane Jackson Boles.  He was married to “the love of his life”, Cassie Faye Gammons Boles, for nearly 62 years. He retired, after 27 years of service, as the Head of Maintenance at Surry Industries/Armtex in Pilot Mountain and was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  He dearly loved his family and the Lord.   He served the Lord faithfully and spent much of his time serving in the church as Bishop, Counselor to the Bishop, Secretary in the Bishopric, Ward Clerk, Ward Sunday School President, Counselor to the Stake Sunday School Presidency, High Priest Group Leader, Elders Quorum President, Young Men’s President, Counselor to the President in Young Men’s, Ward Mission Leader, and Stake High Councilman.  He was instrumental in helping to organize a Branch of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Pilot Mountain which later expanded into a Ward.   He genuinely loved people and wanted to make sure they felt his love as well as the Savior’s love.   He found great joy in serving the Lord in the Temple. Along with his love of family and the gospel, Mr. Boles enjoyed gardening, often growing enough crops to share with all of his family and friends.  Frank could also be found engineering and building things. He built equipment to extract the honey from his beehives, a vat to produce molasses, a greenhouse, a water stove, and countless other projects including installing the families in ground pool.   He was also very well known for his musical talents.   He instilled a love of music in his family as they spent time together singing and dancing.   He was a caller for square dances at many church and community events.   He loved playing the guitar and was a member of several bands.  He helped organize the band “Generation Gap”.   Many came to call him “Big Bopper” because of one of the oldies he loved to sing, “Chantilly Lace”.   He was loved by everyone and will be missed by all.   He is survived by his eternal companion, Cassie Faye Gammons Boles;  one son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Shelby Boles; three daughters and sons-in-law, Stefanie and Randall Gentry, Monica and Jerry Haymore, and Celeste and Nick Hawks;  Twelve grandchildren and spouses, Meagan and Ronnie LaBerge, Britany and Craig Howell, Kayla Boles, Bethany Gentry, Caleb and Stephanie Hawks, Justin Haymore, Austin and Remmick Haymore, Brody and Chloe Gentry, Carlie Haymore, Tessa Haymore, Landon Hawks, and Jackson Hawks; Five great-grandchildren, Bryce, Braylen, Mason, Bella, and Maverick; three sisters-in-law and spouse, Louise Arnder, Nellie Boles, and Nelda and Jimmy Draughn; and one brother-in-law and spouse, Rayford and Judy Gammons.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Boles was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Pete Baker; brothers, Tommy, Jessie, Robert, Jay, Leonard, and Melvin Boles;  and sisters-in-law and spouse, Dora Arnder, Lola Boles, and Sylvia Brown and her husband Billy Brown.  A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 31, 2020, at 11:00 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Pilot Mountain, with Bishop Jeff Simmons conducting.  Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the funeral.  Burial will take place at the William Hiatt Family Cemetery in Mount Airy.  The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice for the love and care given to Frank.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care (401 Technology Lane Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030).   Online condolences may be made at www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
