Mr. Ronald Clarence Johnson, 80, of 172 Dunwoody Lane, Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, August 3, 2008, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mr. Johnson was born September 19, 1927, in Surry County, to the late Fred and Alma Hiatt Johnson. He graduated from Flat Rock High School in 1949. Ronald served our country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was a well-known radio announcer at WSYD for 52 years. Mr. Johnson attended Indian Grove Baptist Church and was a recipient of the 2006 Surry County Sports Hall of Fame/Ring of Honor. Surviving are special cousins and caregivers, Bobby Hiatt and Leota and Junior Jessup, all of Mount Airy; several other cousins; and a special friend, Debbie Cochran of Mount Airy. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 5, 2008, at Indian Grove Family Cemetery, with the Rev. Colen Forrest officiating. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the Indian Grove Family Cemetery Fund, c/o Norma Bowen, 200 Cook School Road, Pilot Mountain, NC 27041.
