Mr. Ronald Leroy Smith, 69, of Mount Airy, passed away Saturday, March 27, 2010, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Smith was born February 10, 1941, in Surry County, to the late Robert T. "Bob" and Martha Frances Smith. He retired as a brick mason from the family masonry business and was a member of Salem United Methodist Church. Surviving are his loving wife, Nellie Ruth Tucker Smith of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Jason Bingman of Mount Airy, Patricia and Phil Vestal of Elkin, Ruth and Chris Williams of Mount Airy, Judy and Junior Stevens of Westfield, and Frances Link of Madison; sons and daughters-in-law, Scottie and Kelly Smith and Mitchell and Tammy Arrington, all of Mount Airy; twenty-two grandchildren; a very special grandson, Cody Smith, who was always there to assist his grandparents; eleven great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Melba Lynn Smith of Mount Airy, Evelyn Louise and John T. Young of Ararat, VA, Martha Kay Fisher of Mount Airy, and Linda Mae and Turner Thompson of Ararat, VA; brothers and sister-in-law, Robert Terry Smith, Jr. and Brenda of Mount Airy, Tony Dean Smith of Cana, VA, and Donald C. Smith of Mount Airy; several nieces and nephews; and a dear cousin, Mary Lee Gravley. In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray Francis Smith and James Larry Smith. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, by the Rev. Wallace Coe. Burial will follow in the Mount Bethel Moravian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. The family would like to express their appreciation to Mr. Smith's nurses at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, including Sandy Tilley, RN, and Tracy Hiatt, CNA. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
