Ronald E. Kodenski, affectionately known as “Ronnie” by his family and friends, age 74 of Stuart, crossed that beautiful lake late Wednesday afternoon, July 24, 2024, to land on that shining shore that his gracious Lord laid there for him to enjoy the simplicity of his new found life, with his Lord waiting to welcome him forever more. He was born in McDowell County, West Virginia on February 20, 1950. In addition to his father and mother, Ronnie was preceded in death by two brothers, Bobby and Frank Kodenski.
Ronnie is survived by three sisters, Helen, Mary Ann and Julia; two brothers, Michael and Jerry; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ronnie was a Christian man who found comfort in reading his Bible while at home and quoting some scripture on occasion. In his youth, there were the endless days of summer that inspired him to go on fishing expeditions near the surrounding streams looking for those elusive trout or a pond for those large bass. He thoroughly enjoyed swimming, building his strength and his spirit for the enduring years ahead. There was never extra money for other activities besides what he could create naturally, like baseball or softball in the yard. After high school graduation, he and a dear friend decided to join the United States Marine Corp. So as the song goes, they got to go to Vietnam for their senior trip. As they spent their years there wading through swamps and dodging bullets, God watched over them and brought them back home safely. However, that was not the easiest experience to forget sometimes. Ronnie received numerous medals for his service in Vietnam, including the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, Vietnam Service Metal, and Letter of Appreciation. He was a life member of VFW Post 7800 in Patrick Springs.
Funeral services for Ronnie will be held Monday, July 29, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart. Burial will follow in Sycamore Baptist Church Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
