Mr. Ronnie Franklin Simpson, Sr., 69, of Mount Airy, passed away Monday, May 21, 2018, at Surry Community Health and Rehabilitation Center in Mount Airy. Mr. Simpson was born October 2, 1948, in Surry County, to the late Chester and Irene Draughn Simpson. Ronnie was a member of Bannertown Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, Sunday school superintendent, and a member of various committees. He was very instrumental in setting up the American Red Cross Blood Drives at Bannertown Baptist Church, the Operation Christmas Child, and the Foothills Food Pantry. He served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Sarah Cox Simpson of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Brad Casstevens of Yadkinville; two grandchildren, Kayla Simpson of Pilot Mountain and Caroline Simpson of Chapmanville, WV; a sister and brother-in-law, Bonnie and John Hardy of Siloam; and a daughter-in law, Amy Simpson of Chapmanville, WV. In addition to his parents, Mr. Simpson was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Franklin Simpson, Jr. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 23, 2018, at 2:00 PM at Bannertown Baptist Church, with the Rev. Rusty Reed and the Rev. Mickey Cogdill officiating. Burial will follow in the Little Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery, with military honors by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the Bannertown Baptist Church Building Fund, 1834 Westfield Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
