Mr. Ross Montgomery Amburn, 82, of 441 Blevins Store Road, Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, October 26, 2008, at his home. Mr. Amburn was born January 11, 1926, in Surry County, to the late Eldridge Washington and Ila Marie Hayes Amburn. He retired from the North Carolina Department of Corrections and was a member of Ladonia Baptist Church. Mr. Amburn was a member of Round Peak Masonic Lodge #616 AF and AM. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Edith Mays Amburn of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and Gordon Holder of Lowgap; a son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Cathy Amburn of Mount Airy; four grandchildren and their spouses, Lee and Stacy Holder of Huntersville, Joe and Lana Holder of Lowgap,Drew Holder of Charleston, SC, and Amber Amburn of Santa Monica, CA; five great-grandchildren, Wesley Holder, Erin Holder, Luke Holder, Matthew Holder, and Lyla Holder; a sister and brother-in-law, Melrose and James P. Rhyne of Robbinsville; a brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Patsy Amburn of Mount Airy; and seven nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Amburn was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Thompson; and a brother, E.W. Amburn, Jr. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 29, 2008, at 2:00 PM at Ladonia Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tony Holder officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, with full Masonic rites conducted by the Round Peak Masonic Lodge #616 AF and AM. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Ladonia Baptist Church.
