Mr. Roy Albert Harrison, 74, of 205 Dudley Avenue, Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, November 7, 2010, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Harrison was born August 7, 1936, in Tazewell County, VA, son of the late Claude Beavers and Belle Shannon Harrison. Roy was an avid NASCAR fan. He served our country in the United States Air Force for four years during the Korean Conflict. Roy made his living by working in the trucking industry, having worked for several trucking companies in Virginia, Florida, and North Carolina. He was last employed by W.L.A. Trucking Company Inc. in Mount Airy. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving and caring wife, Betty Lou Ward Harrison of the home; two daughters, Sheryl Harrison Payne and her husband, Lee, of Kingman, IN, and Reba Schell and her husband, David, of Riverview, FL; three sons, David Harrison, Sr. and his fiancée, Del Moore, of Brandon, FL, Roy Allen Harrison and his wife, Laura, of San Juan Bautista, CA, and Claude E. Harrison and his fiancée, Cindy Nicholson, of Mount Airy; a sister, Geneva Harrison Crouse of Marion, VA; and his stepmother, Billie Harrison of Hawthorne, FL. Also surviving are three stepchildren and their spouses, Kim and Nickey Bowman of Mount Airy, Tammy and Sonny Roach of Gentryville, IN, and Kelley Hessig and her fiancé, Bobby Peterson, of Marysville, IN; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a double first cousin and his wife, Jim Claude and Linda Shannon of Cedar Bluff, VA; and special friends, Jay and Frances Leonard of Mount Airy, Mack and Phyllis McBee of Pensacola, FL, Jim and Donna Newman of Fancy Gap, VA, and Joanne Newman of Lowgap. His special little buddies include Clyde, Bo, and Murphy, his dogs; and many cousins and friends in Tazewell County, VA. In addition to his parents, Mr. Harrison was preceded in death by his stepmother, Reba Harrison. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 10, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Larry Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
