Mr. Roy Richard Haynes, Sr., 74, of Cana, VA, passed away Thursday, May 26, 2011, at his home. Mr. Haynes was born July 6, 1936, in Carroll County, VA, to the late Robert Fonzo and Hassie Dawson Haynes. He retired as the owner and operator of H and U Automotive and was a founding member of the Cana Rescue Squad. He always had a smile and was helpful to everyone throughout the community. Mr. Haynes is survived by a daughter, Suzanne Haynes of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Lisa Hall Haynes of Mount Airy; two adored grandsons, Nolan Richard Haynes and Leeman Jacob Haynes, both of Mount Airy; and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Ina Haynes of Cana, VA, and Judy and Mike Flinchum of Mount Airy; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Sally. In addition to his parents, Mr. Haynes was preceded in death by his wife, Ola Utt Haynes; a sister, Clara Hall; and four brothers, Charlie Haynes, Joe Haynes, J.R. "Speedy" Haynes, and Danny Haynes. A memorial service will be held Sunday, June 5, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Willow Hill Moravian Church, with the Rev. Oscar Hill, Bruce Mosley, and Ray Fleming officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Cana Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 40, Cana, VA 24317. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Jennifer Chapman, Dr. Nick Chrysson, and the staff of Piedmont Hematology-Oncology Associates in Mount Airy for their love and concern during this difficult time.
