Ruby Jolene Slate Gentry

Mrs. Ruby Jolene Slate Gentry, age 81, of Dobson, NC spread her wings to heaven on Resurrection Easter Sunday, April 17, 2022, at the Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC.  She was born on January 7, 1941, in Surry County, to the late Coy Slate and the late Lettie Lucille Gardner Slate.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Washington “CW” Gentry; son Charles Tony Lyons; and brother Thomas Wayne Slate.  She spent most of her career life in retail management and retired from running her own weight loss clinic in partnership with a dear friend.  Jolene’s unwavering faith in her Heavenly Father, is the foundation upon which she built her life.   Her faith grew stronger in her final years of life.  She had a deep love for the Word of God and the souls of mankind.  She was a dedicated Sunday School teacher to her family and friends at New Hope Baptist Church. Her family will miss her big presence in their lives but rejoices knowing she is in peace and resting as the good and faithful servant she was.  Jolene walked to the beat of her own drum and was well-known for telling you what was on her mind.  With a passionate spirit, a determined grit, and a smile, she will be remembered as a brave warrior who embodied courage and perseverance. Surviving is her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and David Baker; son and daughter-in-law, Trent and Carlene Lyons: daughter-in-law, Sandra Lyons-Bowman; stepdaughters and step-sons-in-law, Lesa and Kip Thomas, Gina and Ronnie Nichols; stepson and step-daughter-in-law, Randall and Stefanie Gentry; eight grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Faye and Earl Martin.  A Celebration of Life will be held 2:00 PM Monday April 25, 2022, in the chapel of New Hope Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Trent Lyons. A private graveside service will be held in the Cemetery of New Hope Baptist Church.  Moody-Davis Funeral Home is serving the Gentry family.  There will be no formal services held at the funeral home.  The family has requested in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
