Mrs. Ruby Elizabeth East George, age 80 of Mount Airy passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Surry Community Health and Rehabilitation Center in Mount Airy surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. George was born in Surry County to the late Wilburn and Mary Inez McMillian East. Ruby was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Surviving is her two daughters and sons-in-law, Penny George Gammons and Tim, Libby George Hodges and Jim; a son and daughter-in-law, Orville Samuel George, Jr. and Gretchen; eight grandchildren, Brooke and Max Cherry, B.J and Jamie Hodges, Stevie Hodges, Samuel Gammons and Morgan Shepish, Heather Chavis, Gracie George, Ellie Carcio, Kylen Bryant; nine great-grandchildren; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Rachel East Marion, Jewel East Faw and Reverend Bill Faw, Billie Jo East Bouldin and Mickey, Diane East Barnes and Gary; sister-in-law, Jewel East; along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. George was preceded in death by her husband, Arvil Samuel George; a great-granddaughter, Penelope Whitaker; three sisters, Mary East Wall, Ruth East Creed, Magdalene East Creed; and four brothers, Junior East, Johnny East, Denny East, and Tommy East. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at 12:00 PM at Bryant’s Chapel Cemetery with Reverend Jason Johnson and Reverend Mike Martin officiating. No formal visitation will be held. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy has been entrusted with the arrangements.
