Ruby Smith Hardy

Mrs. Ruby Katherine Smith Hardy, 67, widow of Bobby Hardy, of Mount Airy, NC passed away at her home on Monday December 4, 2006 with her loving family by her bedside. She was born in McDowell County, West Virginia on October 19, 1939 to the late Troy and Susie Mabe Smith. Mrs., Hardy was a retired Certified Nursing Assistant formerly employed by Surry Community Nursing Center and was of the Baptist faith. Surviving are two daughters, Pamela Pickett Easter of Lowgap, NC and Katherine Freeman of Max Meadows, Va.; a son and daughter-in-law Randy and Lisa Pickett of Dobson, NC; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers and three sisters-in-law Willie and Jeannie Smith of Galax, Va., Earl and Alma Smith of Hillsville, VA. and Frances Smith of Forest City, IA.; a sister and brother-in-law Nancy and Duel Lawson of Austinville, VA. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hardy was preceded in death by her husbands, Willis Pickett, Sr.and Bobby Hardy; three brothers Virgil Mabe, James Smith and Vernard Smith. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday December 6, 2006 at Pleasant View Church, Austinville, VA. with Rev. Russell Payne and Rev. Billy Dean officiating. Burial will follow in the Pickett Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6 to 8 PM at Moody-Davis Funeral Home of Dobson where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state one hour prior to the funeral service.
