Mrs. Ruby Ann Tolbert Tablas Houlden, 92, of Winston-Salem, left her earthly home on Tuesday morning, April 8, 2025, and entered her heavenly home. Mrs. Houlden was born July 17, 1932, in Surry County, the daughter of the late Roy Roosevelt and Ada Mae Flippen Tolbert. Ruby was raised on a tobacco farm in the Pine Ridge community and graduated from Beulah High School in 1951. Ruby later attended Guilford College, where she formed lifelong friendships with Mutt, Cannon, Bunny, and Peggy, bonds that she treasured throughout her life. Ruby worked for many years as a clinical supervisor at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. She is survived by her son, Steven Arthur Tablas of Winston-Salem; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Penny and Joe Fritts of Winston-Salem, Louise and Stonie Dunbar of Mount Airy, and Marie Booker of Mount Airy; her brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Linda Tolbert of Mount Airy; several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Amy Patella; her best friend, Martha “Mutt” Dentiste of Winston-Salem; and a special teacher and friend, Joe Gamble. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Houlden was preceded in death by her first husband, Art Tablas; her second husband, Thomas “Tom” Houlden; and a sister, Una Hawks. In accordance with her wishes, no visitation or memorial service will be held. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
