Ruby Helen Hiatt McMillian

Mrs. Ruby Helen Hiatt McMillian, 103, of Cana, VA, passed into heaven on Tuesday afternoon, December 18, 2012, at Laurel Meadows Nursing Home in Laurel Fork, VA. Mrs. McMillian was born November 9, 1909, in Carroll County, VA, the daughter of the late Ulysses S. and Ada Curtis Smith Hiatt. She enjoyed cooking and visiting with her family and many friends. She had been a member of Willow Hill Moravian Church since her youth. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth Evelyn Ayers of Ararat, VA, JoAnn and Mike Marshall of Cana, VA, and Joe Ayers of Mount Airy; a daughter-in-law, Gladys Boyles of Cana, VA; eleven grandchildren, Donald McMillian, Ronald McMillian, Roger McMillian, Pat Holt, Robin Anders, Merinda Haynes, Treva Branch, Donna Smith, Marla Ayers, Jennifer Marshall, and Amy Haynes; two stepgranddaughters, Cheryl Ayers and Judy Leftwich; twenty-one great-grandchildren; twenty great-great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. McMillian was preceded in death by her first husband, Cullen B. McMillian; her second husband, Carl McMillian; a daughter, Adell Ayers; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Coy and Carrie McMillian, Robert "Duke" and Clarsie McMillian, and Sanford McMillian; a son-in-law, Clinton Ayers; a grandson, Dennis McMillian; a sister, Susie Towe; and four brothers, Edward Hiatt, Thomas L. Hiatt, Clarence Oten Hiatt, and Arlis Hiatt. The funeral service will be held Friday, December 21, 2012, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Oscar Hill and the Rev. Dennis Bledsoe officiating. Burial will follow in the Willow Hill Moravian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home, and other times at the home of JoAnn and Mike Marshall, 5305 Wards Gap Road, Cana, VA.
