Mrs. Ruby Thelma Snow York, 95, of Charlotte, NC passed away Monday, June 8, 2009, at South Miami Hospital in Miami, FL. Mrs. York was born October 31, 1913, in Surry County, NC, daughter of the late Preston Hale Snow and Alice Goins Snow. She attended Appalachian State College and taught first grade in Siloam, NC. In 1932, she married her high school sweetheart, Wesley. They lived in North Carolina, Virginia, and Georgia before moving to Charlotte in 1943. Wesley died in 1995 and Ruby remained in their Charlotte home until 2007. Since then, she had been residing in Coral Gables, FL. She was a member of Myers Park Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC. Surviving are two daughters, Frances Reid (Dr. Edward L. Reid) and Carolyn Durham (Floyd A. Durham), all of Coral Gables, FL; four grandchildren, Deborah Reid and Wesley Reid (Jody), all of Miami, FL, Lance Reid (Dr. Amy Reid) of Pocatello, ID, and Steven Durham of Leesburg, VA; and two great-grandchildren, Graham Reid and Blake Reid. In addition to her parents, Mrs. York was preceded in death by her husband, C. Wesley York; a grandson, Scott Durham; three sisters, Grace Cooke, Emma Bunker, and Sarah Sparger; and five brothers, Ray Snow, Columbus Snow, Charles Snow, Guy Snow, and Woodrow Snow. The funeral service will be held Sunday, June 14, 2009, at 3:30 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Tom Bagnal officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home on Sunday from 2:00 to 3:30 PM. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions can be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
