Rufus Monroe Lawson

Mr. Rufus Monroe Lawson, age 79 of Stuart, Virginia passed away at Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Hospital on Tuesday, January 28, 2025. He was born in Stokes County, North Carolina to the late Sammy Lawson and Lubie Woods Lawson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Charlie Lawson; and three sisters, Margaret Holt, Helen Hylton, and Bertha Campbell. Rufus was hardworking and had farmed his whole life, he enjoyed picking and carrying on with everyone he met and had a lot of special friends. He loved his family dearly and was good to his wife, children, grandchildren, parents, and siblings.

Left to cherish the memory of Rufus are his devoted wife of 59 years, Bonnie Flippin Lawson of the home; three children, Rufus Dean Lawson (Judy) of Stuart, Tammy Harris (Thomas) of Stuart, and Randy Lawson (Regina) of Patrick Springs; four grandchildren, Brooklyn Martin (fiancé, Todd Gunter), Allyson Kenyon (Hunter), Cody Lawson (fiancé, Hannah Tucker) and Madison Lawson; five sisters, Carlene Hylton of Stuart, Linda Hughes (Donnie) of Stuart, Alice Hooker of Stuart, Mary Overby of South Carolina, and Nina Hylton (significant other, Phillip Earles) of Fieldale; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A graveside service for Mr. Lawson will be held on Sunday, February 2, 2025, in Snow Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery at 2:00 p.m with Pastor David Hardy officiating. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart on Sunday, February 2, 2025, from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial donations may be made to the Snow Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, C/o Jimmy Tucker, 1997 Sheppard Mill Road, Danbury, NC 27013.
